Carpe Diem - Seize the Day

To the Virgins, to make much of Time by Robert Herrick 1591-1674

GATHER ye rosebuds while ye may,

Old Time is still a-flying:

And this same flower that smiles to-day

To-morrow will be dying.

The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,

The higher he 's a-getting,

The sooner will his race be run,

And nearer he 's to setting.

That age is best which is the first,

When youth and blood are warmer;

But being spent, the worse, and worst

Times still succeed the former.

Then be not coy, but use your time,

And while ye may, go marry:

For having lost but once your prime,

You may for ever tarry.

My Poetry

I went ahead and published some of my own poetry on my blog page, so if I can do it any of my students can do it. Be kind if you are going to comment on my poems. I am no Robert Frost.

Our Song Mrs. Di Giovanni 2002

Ups and downs
Like a sweet melody
Our love came in meters
Developed with beats.
The first time we held hands
Was like a whole note.
Lasting four beats of my heart.
Our first kiss was like a quarter note
Long enough for the effect
But not for the feeling.
Our second kiss we made music
The sweetest music ever.
Our life together forms a symphony,
My love for you is a ballad
Written from my heart to yours
A slow romance between the scales.
Your love is an opera loud and proud
Professing to the world
In five different languages how we feel.
Our melody is always changing and
Will never remain the same.
It is our song,
The rhythm is our life,
The beat is our steps,
And the melody is ours to create.

Seasons by Mrs. Di Giovanni 2002

Trees of green touched with the pale first frost of winter.
Frail flowers cringe underneath their damp veils of morning.
The chill in the air has dug in for the season.
I wander alone and cold down the narrowing path.

Tiny buds spring from underneath their icy crypt.
Sounds of life ring through the forest’s depths.
Yellow specs of nourishment like a blanket shelter the ground.
I stride, still alone, but with the thought of you down the shortening path.

Full blossoms of elaborate colors and smells erupt in the warm sun.
The woods resound in a melodious discord.
The path is bright and full of flora.
Together now, we walk down the sun-drenched path.

Leaves fall gracefully back onto the earth.
Greens fade slowly into dark reds and browns.
Fauna gather and prepare for the coming change.
Together we arrive at the end of the path.
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
This is one of the best poems ever.

Welcome To My Poetry Page

Welcome to my poetry page. When I was younger I did not really enjoy reading poetry, however once I strated to write my own poetry I began to understand the enitre process and how much effort really goes into writing a piece of poetry. After I understood that aspect of writing, I began to enjoy and appreciate poetry for the hard work and technical aspects. Once I could appreciate the poetic form, then I was able to find poetry that I really enjoyed. On my blog I have included links to great poetry as well as a few of my own poems. I hope you enjoy!
